Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is PINGPAD?

PINGPAD is a video Intercom cloud service. As an Intercom, it provides visitor call service to members of a business entity such as  a lodging business, a business office or a residential community such as apartment, condo, townhome, mobile home park, etc.

Unlike traditional intercom systems with complex deployment and costly maintenance, PINGPAD uses plain QR code call board combined with modern mobile, wireless internet, and video communication infrastructure to offer your business a smarter, simpler, and more affordable intercom solution. Yet, PINGPAD goes beyond a mere Intercom functionality to offer your business effortless communication with users through on-app bulletin board and ability to coordinate security teams and respond instantly to emergency crises.

PINGPAD uses Internet for audio/video call, which is a service available on all smart phones today. A PINGPAD mobile app is required to be installed on every user’s device. The app can be downloaded from AppStore or PlayStore.  Each user device is associated with an assigned extension or a shared extension owned by another device. A visitor will scan a QR code posted on business premise using own phone camera to place the call to a desired extension or an automated system for assistance depending on deployment option.

PINGPAD mobile app is compatible with all Android smart phones running Android 10 OS or later and iPhone X or later.

After PINGPAD is installed on user’s device. The user will use the app to scan a so-called Claim Extension QR code to start extension claiming process.  The user will be presented with a UI to enter the assigned extension number and a claim code. If the claim code matches that of the extension, the system will associated the extension with the user’s device. After a successful claim, all incoming calls for the extension will be routed to the user’s device.

The Claim Extension QR code, extension number and associated claim code will be provided by the management of the business.

To stop receiving incoming calls user must unclaim the extension associated with own device. Use the Unclaim button on the Business Home Screen associated with the extension on the app to unclaim own extension.

You need to obtain a new claim code for your extension from management and reclaim your extension again using the procedure outlined in the answer to question 4.

PINGPAD allows multiple devices to share an extension in a feature called Ring Group. You can add your family members’ or co-workers’ device to your extension. Incoming calls will ring on all devices, but the first device picking up a call will take the call. Ring group supports up to 5 devices per group.

Only the primary user who owns the extension can remove a ring group member. All other members are free to leave the group if so desired.

Yes, ring group members are free to forward a call to another member of the group, but not to another extension.

Extension access code enables extension owner to control who are allowed to call his/her extension. A caller must enter the correct access code given by the extension owner to place a call to the associated extension. PINGPAD use can set extension access code using the Phone Settings button.

Visual caller ID is a function that allows a user to peek at caller’s face for identification prior to answering call. It is a safety feature and applied to visitor calls or all incoming calls depending on service management setting.
